Digital Identity

Making sure who is on the other side of the screen.

Black and white portrait with a prism distorting the face

Digital onboarding has replaced the counter. The question is no longer whether identification will be remote, but how to make sure it is reliable.

We assess identity proofing processes, attended, unattended and fully automated, against ETSI TS 119 461, a standard whose editorial team we are part of. We also assess conformity with SEPBLAC requirements for non-face-to-face identification.

With the arrival of the European digital identity framework and the EUDI Wallet, assessing these systems takes on a relevance it never had before.

Scope

What we assess

Three regulatory frameworks, one method: checking that the process does what it says, at the level of assurance each standard requires.

Under ETSI TS 119 461 (identity proofing)

  • Verification of identity evidence: documentary (OCR, NFC chip reading, authenticity and validity of the document);
  • Verification that the applicant is who they claim to be: facial biometrics and liveness detection;
  • Binding between the person and the evidence, and attribute checks;
  • Attended (operator-assisted), unattended and fully automated modes.

Under SEPBLAC rules (non-face-to-face identification by obliged entities)

  • Video identification in accordance with the SEPBLAC authorisation;
  • Non-face-to-face identification procedures admitted by SEPBLAC.

eIDAS 2.0 and the EUDI Wallet

In the issuance of attestations of attributes, of signature certificates or of Personal Identity Data (PID), remote identity proofing methods will be essential to the roll-out of the new European Digital Identity.

What sets us apart

We are part of the editorial team of the standard we apply.

ETSI TS 119 461 is the European reference standard for identity verification. Taking part in its drafting allows us to assess each requirement knowing which risk it is meant to cover, and to tell a process that complies from one that merely looks like it does.
